The “WOFSY WISH”

When my sixth grade teacher asked me what I wanted to be when I got older, my response was automatic. “I want to own a day camp someday.” I passionately explained how much fun summer camp was and what a special, strong sense of belonging I had. For eight amazing weeks a year, I was in a special place with my “camp family.” I summed it up by saying, “It’s just who I am”. And that feeling has never changed.

I spent 14 summers at Brooklake Day Camp in New Jersey as a camper and camp counselor until it closed in 1988. Luckily, the camp owner, Neil Rothstein, opened another camp, Camp Horizons, where I worked for 22 years. I worked side by side with the camp owner, camp director and camp administrator, and learned all aspects of what it takes to run a successful day camp. In 2012, when Camp Horizons closed, I knew it was time to go out and fulfill my lifelong dream of owning my own camp.

My philosophy, “always do what’s best for the campers,” will guide the camp spirit. Campers at Camp W will spend their summer days in a family atmosphere filled with laughter and fun. They will enjoy themselves while they build new friendships, participate in favorite activities, and explore new ones.

My wish has finally come true.
